Learning Immunity from Emerging Viruses

Kellie Ann Jurado, PhD, Presidential Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania will discuss how we can learn how our immune system works by understanding how viruses cause pathogenesis.

Dr. Jurado’s research team uses emerging viral pathogens to describe early life immunity. She completed her postdoctoral training in Immunobiology with Akiko Iwasaki at Yale and earned her PhD in Virology from Harvard University with Alan Engelman. She is the recipient of multiple prestigious grants and fellowships, including the L’Oreal for Women in Science Award, Pew Biomedical Research Scholars and the David and Lucille Packard Fellowship. Jurado has won multiple trainee-nominated mentoring awards (including our 2022 Elizabeth Bingham Mentoring Award), and is committed to efforts of inclusion and equity.
